Full Job Description

Doggy Shop Grooming is dog grooming in a busy, fast paced, fun and professional atmosphere. We pride ourselves on working as a team, sharing the workload and offering excellent customer service.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Many groomers say that a good bath is the most important part of the process. It is the foundation of our work, and without it the rest of the groom can only be mediocre. So even though this is an entry level position, it is still important!! Our customers expect excellent, consistent and timely service, and that is what this position requires.

Key Concepts

  • Safety! The Doggy Shop team always puts safety first! Our customers trust us with what they cherish most, and we make sure that trust is not misplaced! Treating dogs safely must come first and must come easily. This is not something we can train for, you either have it, or you don’t.

  • Learning! We are passionate about our work and about our animals. This is a competitive industry and even after years of experience we are still learning new tips, tricks and techniques to make our grooming better and more efficient. We expect our team to always be seeking knowledge and new skills, whether you are brand new or experienced.

  • Enthusiasm! Working with animals can be a dirty, exhausting job, but we get to work with animals!! Our passion for pets carries us through. We keep an upbeat atmosphere in a fun environment. When we have fun, the dogs have fun, and that makes for happy customers.

Role Responsibilities

  • Carrying Dogs – This position requires heavy lifting! And usually the load is squirming, kicking, and sometimes sopping wet. The ability to lift 50lbs at least is required.

  • Bathing Dogs – Using the appropriate water temperature, the appropriate shampoo, cleaning the dog thoroughly and then drying the dog. All while keeping the dog calm and happy, and in a timely manner.

  • Dog Feet – Clipping dog nails and shaving the bottom of their feet. This sometimes needs to be done while holding the weight of the dog if they can’t hold their own weight on three legs (remember, dog safety first).

  • Cleaning – Sweeping, mopping, laundry, picking up poop, wiping up pee, dusting. These things need to be done continuously throughout the day. Every day.

  • Dog Anal Glands – Grooming is not just about esthetics. We are often the step between owner and vet in regards to physical wellbeing. And one of the things that this entails is the messy and gross job of anal glands. Yes it involves a dog’s butt, yes it’s stinky, yes it’s repulsive. And yes, it’s part of the job.

The above list is my no means exhaustive, but is a small snapshot of a day in the life of a dog bather. It may not always be easy, but our love for furry faces carries us through!

Your Experience

Yes, we expect you to have at least some. You have either worked as a dog bather previously in a grooming salon, or you have completed a dog grooming course at an accredited school. You have worked with animals in some sort of grooming capacity and know that this is what you want to do.

Future

There is opportunity and an expectation that you will grow with and within our team! We strive to offer our clients a consistent grooming experience every time, no matter who their stylist was. The natural progression from bather is to rougher, and then finisher. We are not looking to hire just a bather, but a team member who is looking to start a long and fulfilling career working with animals!

If this sounds like the opportunity you’ve been looking for, send us your resume!

Please no phone calls or drop ins!
